Henri Louis Bouchard (1875-1960) - Lot 45
Henri Louis Bouchard (1875-1960) The fardier, circa 1910 Bas-relief in bronze with dark brown patina Signed and dated " BOUCHARD 1905 ". Lost wax from Bisceglia, inscribed "Bisceglia fres". H. 23,5 x W. 104,5 cm and with its beautiful original oak frame H. 42 x W. 118,5 cm During his boarding school at the Villa Medici from 1902 to 1906, Henri Bouchard, influenced by the realist style of Jean-François Millet, Constantin Meunier and Aimé-Jules Dalou, roamed the Roman countryside and captured the peasants he met on film. We know of two examples of this bas-relief. The second one, also signed and dated 1905, is known only from a plaster cast and belongs to the collections of the Musée de Roubaix - La Piscine. The stamp on the plaster shows that it was cast by Bisceglia, like our copy.
