STATUETTE OF A SEATED MAN Postclassic Colima culture, 1300-1400 century AD. Light brown molded and modeled clay with remains of creamy white paint. Large hollow ceramic figure seated on a small cylindrical stool with sides pasted with a beautiful repetitive geometric pattern. He is naked, his sex visible, his hands resting on his knees. The arms are decorated with numerous bracelets and the neck supports an imposing necklace, also pastilled. The head is projected forward, the skull is topped at the back with numerous quills with a semi-circular opening. In front, presence of small braids and repetitive buns. Expressive face with bulging eyes framing a long aquiline nose, half-open mouth with thick lips. Broken glued in a visible way, small restorations. Left leg and left arm entirely restored. H. 60 cm H. with base 145,5 cm DOCUMENTATION : copy of an expertise of Mr. Georges Baptiste, of March 1985. Thermoluminescence test Ciram, 2019. PROVENANCE: acquired from Mrs. Huguette Schaal, wife of the artist Ado Chale, 117 avenue Louise, Brussels, in the late 1960s. Belgian private collection.
