Titled DERBY DU MIDI / 1944 in a cartouche on the black marble base of Belgium. Roger Godchaux was a pupil of Jules Adler and then of Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the jury of the Exposition des Arts décoratifs et Industriels modernes awarded him a silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life representing the animal in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
