Wilhelm LEHMBRUCK (1881-1919) Mädchen mit aufgestützen Bein Model created around 1910, posthumous casting. Bronze with brown patina. Signed and located LEHMBRUCK PARIS. Bears the mark of the founder H. GONOT Fondeur Paris on the terrace. H.63 cm BIBLIOGRAPHY : Dietrich Schubert, Wilhelm Lehmbruck: catalogue raisonné der Skulturen, 1898-1919, Worms, Werner Verlagsgesellschaft, 2001, no. 54, reproduced pp. 205-207 (other examples). This Düsseldorf-born artist trained at the Decorative School and the Academy of Fine Arts in his native city, where he showed an early interest in the human body in a naturalist style. He went to Paris in 1910 for a six-year stay where he rubbed shoulders with the greatest artists of the time, Brancusi, Rodin, Maillot, Modigliani and Archipenko: his style then evolved towards greater expressiveness and interiority.
