Marie-Nicolas PONCE-CAMUS (Paris 1778-1839) Portrait of Madame Constant, née Desprez Gouache on ivory. Signed and dated lower left Ponce Camus 1808. Inscribed on the back of the mount née Desprez / Mde Constant/ Grandmother of Victor Constant and Mde Constant / née Desprez 1810/ opened in January 1899 / by Jules Plateau. D. 7 cm A student of David, Ponce-Camus worked as a miniaturist at the beginning of his career around 1800. Thereafter he was mainly a painter, exhibiting at the Salon between 1801 and 1831. Attached : THOMASSIN (Active in 1821) Portrait of Fanny Constant, née Hauer Gouache on ivory. Signed and dated lower left Thomassin 1821. Inscribed on the back of the mount Fanny Hauer Mde Constant / mother of Victor Constant / sister of Eléonore (Mde Seb Plateau and this miniature / comes from Victor Constant / his grandson / cousin of G. Plateau by his mother. D. 6 cm
