I have been living here for a year - since the bombs almost killed me in St Leu - in the hut that suits my bearishness, rocks, olive trees, sky, sea in the background, the life of peasants, work, peace [...] I fight with the pen for my country, to which I consider that the gospel according to Saint Barbusse would be the worst calamity after the gospel according to Saint Kaiser." He will return to Saint-Leu and will often go to Paris: "I will make representations. I will! I have goose bumps in advance! but after all I don't have the money [...] my brain is intoxicated with Czech, Yugoslavian and Armenian causes, with anti-malvysm, with anti-Barbussism [...]". Beautiful orientalist compositions by Rochegrosse. Precious copy of the engraver to which a magnificent letter from the author is attached.
