Demidoff, Elim - Rochegrosse, Georges. - Les Égarements. Paris, Philippe Renouard, 1909. In-4, bound in red morocco, gilt floral decoration on the first cover and on the spine, gilt head, shaped, lined and bordered slipcase - VII, 132 pp, [1 f.], 12 illustrations in colour h-t by Georges Rochegrosse engraved by Decisy. All the poems are printed in coloured frames and ornaments engraved on wood by Charles Barbant, different on each page. Edition at 151 numbered copies, 1/20 on vellum (n° 8) containing a double suite in first state of the etchings of the h-t (one in black, the other in blue), a proof of each of these etchings with remarks and the fumés on China paper of the woodcuts of all the ornaments of the work. Elim Demidoff, 3rd Prince of San Donato (1868-1943) had a career in diplomacy and was notably the last ambassador of the Tsarist empire in Greece. Several poems in Les Égarements were inspired by famous writers of his time such as Pierre Louÿs for his Chansons de Bilitis or Villiers de L'Isle Adam for Akëdysséril. Beautiful volume composed with great refinement. Superb colour compositions by Rochegrosse.
