Bound in full black morocco, first plate hot-stamped with a Siamese dancer's head, spine ribbed, decorated with a mosaic pattern of white, green, red, brown and havana leather representing a pagoda. Shaped and bordered slipcase, lined with gold moire on the outside and suede on the inside (Morlent binding) - 179, [6] pp. illustrated with 52 compositions by H. [Joseph] de la Nézière. Edition at 350 copies, this one of the 12 first copies on Japon including an original watercolour by the artist, a colour state on thin Japon and a state in black (n° 12). Autograph letter from the publisher. A love story set in the tropical, lush and serene setting of Siam (Thailand) at the beginning of the 20th century. Poh Deng, a young Siamese, grows up near the young Mè Ping. A love affair develops. But as the future unfolds, Mè Ping is chosen to become a dancer at the Royal Court Ballet, while Poh Deng joins the Buddhist monks' corps. Their destinies seem to diverge... A particularly desirable copy due to the quality of its binding.
