In-8, contemporary half calf with small corners, underlined by a gilt fillet, spine ribbed and decorated - [2 ff.], IX, 337 pp., [2 pp.] - Spine and spinebands worn - First edition of Mérimée's first book without an author's name, with the notice signed by Joseph L'Estrange (Mérimée's pseudo). Pale staining affecting the lower margin of the first 15 leaves. 2/ - Theatre of Clara Gazul, Spanish actress. Paris, Fournier, 1830. In-8 half-brown morocco, spine with gilt caissons, gilt title - [2 ff.], VIII, 449 pp, [2 pp, notes, table] - Slight spotting on the headpieces, scattered freckles and browned edges - Second edition without author's name, with "l'Occasion" and "Le Carrosse du Saint-Sacrement" in first edition. "As sought after as the first edition" (Clouzot). 3/ - La Jaquerie. Feudal scenes, followed by La famille de Carvajal, drama by the author of Clara Gazul's theatre. Paris, Brissot-Thivars, 1828. In-8, bradel paperback printed with a repetitive gilt motif, green title page, gilt head (binding by Paul Vié) - [3 ff.], 422, [1 p. table] - Beginning of a split at the first headbone, headbands faded - First edition printed by H. de Balzac "This is perhaps the only important romantic work, not illustrated, to come out of Balzac's printing house, along with Vigny's Cinq-Mars" (Carteret -II, 136) 4/ - Les deux héritages, followed by L'Inspecteur général and Débuts d'un aventurier.
