Large folio in a contemporary binding, full calf over wood, the boards decorated with a double stamped framing motif (one floral, the other composed of scrolls) underlined by a triple framing of three stamped fillets, the central reserve blank. Spine with stamped fillets underlining them and overflowing on the plates. Brass clasps with loss of leather ties - Significant loss of leather at tail of spine and corners, spine split, spine ends cracked, title page flying, worm work on half of book in lower margin, scattered browning - [4 ff.], 1582 pp; [1 f. blc], 302 pp, [1 f., bookseller's mark]. Ambroise Calepin devoted his entire life to the composition of his dictionary, the first edition of which (1502) appeared in Latin, then with translations into Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Italian (1509). It was not until 1586 that it was published with the translation into 10 languages (in Lyon).
