Verlaine, Paul (1844-1896). - Autograph note signed, Paris, - Lot 143
Verlaine, Paul (1844-1896). - Autograph note signed, Paris, 6/08/1890. Sheet of 173 x 110 mm, small tear repaired on the back with scotch tape, stamp of receipt of 10 cents (with small lack). "I, the undersigned Paul Verlaine, authorize Mr. Savine, bookseller and publisher, living in the rue des Pyramides 12, to give to Madame Agrech the sum of two hundred Francs for hotel and boarding expenses... ». A handwritten note from V. Fauvé states on 8 October that he has given 150 francs. Verlaine entered into contact with Albert Savine on the recommendations of Bloy and Huysmans. Hoping to obtain higher royalties than with Vanier, he had signed a first contract with him on 15 September 1888. In spite of a well established relationship and advanced sums, no work by the poet was ever published by Savine. They fell out and their projects failed. Vanier compensated Savine and persuaded him to waive his rights.
