Louis-Philippe of Orleans. L.A.S. to Monsieur de Bonnaventur - Lot 136
Louis-Philippe of Orleans. L.A.S. to Monsieur de Bonnaventure. 1 p. in-8. Saint-Cloud, 4 January 1745. "The affection I have for my Regiment of Chartres and the good oppinion I have of the officers who compose it make me receive with pleasure the testimony of the wishes it forms for me; the care you have taken to transmit them to me has been pleasant to me, being truly very fond of serving you." Then Duke of Chartres, Louis Philippe d'Orléans (1725-1785) - father of Philippe-Egalité - was indeed very attached to the regiment that bore his name, and he took part in the campaigns of 1742, 1743 and 1744, which earned him his appointment as lieutenant general. Two facsimiles are attached, one from Marguerite Daubray, Marquise de Brinvilliers, the other from Madame de Montespan to the Duc de Lauzun.
