Leiden, Jean de la Tourterelle, 1722. 2 volumes in 12, bound in contemporary speckled calf, triple gilt fillet on the boards, ornate ribbed spines, red and green morocco title and giblets, filleted edges, red edges - 2 dull corners, scattered brown spots - [2 ff.], 399 pp. ; [2 ff.], 466 pp. Les vies des Dames galantes, this famous scandalous chronicle of Valois France was first printed in Amsterdam in 1666. They are also the most famous extract of Brantôme's Memoirs which contain 5 separate parts, and for this reason they have often been reprinted alone. A good copy, well bound at the time.
