Collection of 3 medical works. - Lot 74
Collection of 3 medical works. 1/ - Bouillaud, J. - Traité pratique, théorique et statistique du choléra-morbus de Paris, based on a large number of observations collected at the Hôpital de la Pitié. Paris, Baillière, 1832. In-8, paperback, dusty printed buff cover - 4 pp. (catalogue), xvj, 426 pp. First edition. This book was published the same year of the epidemic which, between March and September 1832, caused the death of more than 18000 people in Paris. Baillaud, who practiced at the Pitié, saw many patients arrive in his department. A clinical essay on this epidemic, his book presents numerous case studies that he had to treat, and studies more precisely what happened in the Sorbonne district. This book is therefore also a contribution to the history of Paris in the early 1830s. Jean-Baptiste Bouillaud (1796-1881) was elected to the Academy of Medicine at the age of 30. Rare. 2/ - Zimmermann, M. - Traité de la Dyssenterie. Translated from the German by M. Le Febvre de Villebrune. Paris, Vincent, 1775. In-12, bound in contemporary marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges. Superficial spotting - [1 f.], xlviij, 406 pp. First edition of the translation. Zimmermann (1728-1795) gives here the first important monograph on bacillary dysentery. His translator Lefebvre de Villebrune was a physician before devoting himself solely to translation. Attached: 3/ - Zimmermann, M. George. - A treatise on experience in general, and in particular in the art of healing. Translated from the German by M. Le Febvre de V.D.M. Paris, Vincent, 1774. 3 volumes in-12, bound in contemporary worn brown calf.
