Set of bound works of literature, from the 17th to the 18th century and published in the 19th century. 1/ - Works of Corneille with commentaries by Voltaire. Paris, A.-A. Renouard, 1817. Complete with 12 volumes in-8, red half-chagrin with corners, underlined by a double gilt fillet, very ornate ribbed spine, gilt title, tomaison and head. Printed by Crapelet. Good condition without any foxing. Ex-libris of Frédéric de Reiset (1815-1891), collector and art historian who was director of the National Museums under the IIIrd Republic. 2/ - Complete works of Theodore Agrippa d'Aubigné published for the first time according to the original manuscripts. It is the first time that a book has been published on the subject of the "Theodore Agrippa d'Aubigné", and the first time that a book has been published on the subject of the "Theodore Agrippa d'Aubigné". Réaume, F. de Caussade and A. Legouëz. Paris, A. Lemerre, 1873-1892. Complete with 6 volumes in-8 bound in half cherry morocco with long grain, outlined with a gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated with a romantic gilt motif, title and head gilt (rel. Champs- Stroobants, sc.). Copy in good condition inside, a few minor flaws at the edges and first spine of T I scuffed with tear at the head. 3/ - Oeuvres anciennes d'André Chénier / Oeuvres posthumes, revues, corrigées, et mises en ordre par D. Ch. Robert et augmentées d'une notice historique, par M. H. de Latouche. Paris, Guillaume, 1826. 2 volumes in-8, bound in garnet half-maroquin with long grains, underlined by a gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated with a gilt romantic motif, author, title and head gilt (rel. Champs-Stroobants sc.). A fine copy. 4/ - Oeuvres de Léonard, recueillies et publiées par Vincent Campenon. Paris, Didot Jeune, 1797. 3 volumes in-8 bound in half tan basane with small corners, spines decorated with embossed fleurons and gilt roulettes, green title and tomaison - small lack at the head-cap of T I, scattered freckles. Léonard (1744-1793), was born in Guadeloupe, which he left for France as a child. A poet at the age of 18, he made a name for himself with his "idylls". Desiring to return to his native island, he found a position as a lieutenant of the seneschaussée of Pointre-à-Pitre. He left in 1784 and returned in 1791, after having escaped an assassination attempt. He left us an interesting report of this stay "Lettre sur un voyage aux Antilles" (pp. 173-240 of T I).
