Photography] - Bosquet, Alain - Frank, Robert. The Americans - Lot 40
Photography] - Bosquet, Alain - Frank, Robert. The Americans. Texts collected and presented by Alain Bosquet. Photographs by Robert Frank. Paris, Robert Delpire, "Encyclopédie essentielle", 1958. In-8 oblong, publisher's hardback illustrated by Steinberg. First edition - 174 pp. (the last 2 not numbered). During the years 1955 and 1956, Robert Frank will travel the United States for 13 months with his family and will cross 30 states to realize a kind of sociological snapshot of the deep America in 23000 pictures. The American press refused to publish it, judging its approach to be anti-American. It was the Frenchman Robert Delpire who tried the adventure in 1958, without much success in publishing. It was not until 1961 that an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago paid him tribute. From then on, the book will become one of the classics of photography. Copy in good condition inside, small tear in the tail of the back cover. Iconic work.
