BOBO MASK, Burkina Faso - Lot 52
BOBO MASK, Burkina Faso Hardwood, red, white and black pigments. H. 89 cm Large helmet mask with angular eyes deeply set under the high forehead forming a crest and decorated with a sagittal crest. The face is crossed by a network of tribal marks enhanced with pigments. The presence of horns could allow this mask to be attributed to the Zara, a Bobo sub-group that did not practice agriculture. (See African Masks - The Other Face, from the Barbier Mueller Collection, Editions Adam Biro, Paris, 1997, p. 242, fig. 21)
