Jacques GESTALDER (1918- 2006) - Lot 126
Jacques GESTALDER (1918- 2006) Lycette Darsonval, star dancer of the Opera in Attala, 1958 ? Proof in bronze. Cast Rossini 2/8 (stamp and numbering on the heel of the left foot). Signed (on the back of the right calf): gestalder. 58 x 43 x 12 cm Lycette Darsonval was named a prima ballerina in 1940. A bronze proof of this sculpture is kept at the Bettencourt-Schueller Foundation (Neuilly-sur-Seine). A lover of literature and poetry, and a brilliant student at the Lycée Henri IV, Jacques Gestalder entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the age of sixteen, where he worked in the studios of Marcel Gaumont, Georges Saupique and Raoul Lamourdedieu, before meeting Robert Wlérick, of whom he became a regular student. At a very young age he participated in the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon d'Automne. After the war, he became friends with Le Corbusier and Cocteau, whose busts he made. He worked with two sportsmen (Micheline Ostermeyer, Olympic track and field champion, and Georges Dransart, world canoeing champion) before discovering his passion for classical dance. Appreciated by the star dancers, he moves freely among them for the needs of his drawings. He created several works with the star Lycette Darsonval.
