Richard GUINO (1890-1973) - Lot 71
Richard GUINO (1890-1973) Torso of a man, 1915 Black patina bronze proof, n°VIII / VIII Lost-wax casting by Claude Valsuani. Signed and dated (on the back): GUINO 1915. Stamp of the founder (on the back). 53,5 x 29,5 x 16,5 cm Richard Guino began his sculpture studies at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts before moving to Paris and the Ranson Academy. He distinguished himself with his masters Maillol and Maurice Denis, so much so that the latter entrusted him with the execution of two bas-reliefs for the Champs-Élysées theatre. Maillol recommended him to Pierre-Auguste Renoir. In 1913, the painter and the sculptor began a true collaboration under the impetus of the art dealer Ambroise Vollard. Guino succeeded in transposing the painter's impressions into sculpture. At the same time, the young sculptor developed a more personal art, to which this male torso is linked. Even though his collaboration with Renoir ended around 1918, Guino continued his long career as a sculptor, remaining faithful to the legacy of his masters.
