Marcel GIMOND (1894-1961). - Lot 53
Marcel GIMOND (1894-1961). Portrait of a young girl Model created around 1914. Head in bronze with brown patina. Signed M Gimond and stamped by the founder E. Godard Cire Perdue on the back. Rests on a cubic wooden base. H. 32 cm base H. 15 cm BIBLIOGRAPHY : Paul Fierens, Marcel Gimond, Collection Les Sculpteurs nouveaux, Librairie Gallimard, 1930, plaster model reproduced p. 17. Through these two portraits, Marcel Gimond shows his attachment to figurative sculpture. He mainly made busts of famous people, politicians and artists. He was particularly interested in the physical and psychological study of the models. The balance of the composition and the nature of the expression of these heads translate his search for reality and life. The sculptor is inspired by his own reflections on sculpture, by his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and by his travels, where he discovered the great sculptors of Antiquity and the Renaissance.
