This ceramic print is a reduction of the sculpture on top of the Monument to the Victory and Soldiers of Verdun, created by the architects Léon Chesnay and Louis-Alfred Berthémy and by the sculptor Jean Boucher and inaugurated on 23 March 1929. Through this figure of a Gaul leaning on his sword, Jean Boucher pays tribute to the soldiers of the battle of Verdun and to the French victory. Les Blessés de l'atelier de Lachenal is a ceramic workshop founded by Jean-Jacques Lachenal (1881-1945) at the end of the First World War. The workshop, created for philanthropic purposes to help the wounded of the Great War, was also a place of creation and experimentation for artists between 1920 and 1939.
