Emmanuel CAVACOS (1885-1976) The Kiss Proof in patinated terracotta. Signed E. CAVACOS on the rock. H. 29 cm Wear and tear. Emmanuel Cavacos, originally from Greece, began studying painting at the Maryland Institute before devoting himself to sculpture. Thanks to the Rinehart scholarship in 1911, Emmanuel Cavacos entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français where he received an honorable mention two years later. In 1926, the sculptor created a fountain for the Greek pavilion at the Exposition des Arts décoratifs. On the occasion of his brief return to the United States in 1930, the Baltimore Museum of Art dedicated an exhibition to his sculptural work in which a yellow Sienna marble and a bronze entitled The Kiss were presented.
