KIOKA FESTIVAL (?) KONGO, Democratic Republic of Congo - Lot 104
KIOKA FESTIVAL (?) KONGO, Democratic Republic of Congo Wood with a brown patina, crusty in places, glass, iron, red cloth. H. 16,5 cm Fetish representing a dog sitting on its hind legs, the front legs carved in two vertical elements. The skillfully detailed head opens the snout on two rows of teeth whitened with kaolin. The gaze, which is covered by the eyelids, also bleached, is inscribed under two small glass slats, the pupils still visible. On the back, an old charge with a red cloth protruding from it. A protective symbol, the dog is also associated with the idea of a form of vigil against the sorcerer, whose village must be protected from possible misdeeds. Beautiful and ancient crusty patina of this ritual object, marked by use.
