The bust of the Paysanne de l'Ardèche testifies to Marcel Gimond's deep attachment to his native region, while demonstrating his designs on the bust. Around 1940, the sculptor executed several busts, some of which are linked to personalities from his native land, a period in which he "tried to fix what is eternal in each face". His research is reminiscent of the precepts enunciated by Aristide Maillol. He tends towards a simplification of the forms brought back to their essentiality around the sphere, while bringing out the singular features of the face.
