Recognized for his talents as a portrait painter, Charles Despiau created a bust depicting the beauty and spiritual depth of Princess Achille Murat (1901-1945). Only three unnumbered copies of this portrait, created on the initiative of the Princess's mother-in-law around 1932-1934, are known to this day, and only three of them were melted down by Valsuani. They were most probably intended for the family, apart from the proof presented at the exhibition of the Maitres de l'Art Indépendant at the Petit Palais in 1937. A posthumous cast was made at the request of the Despiau-Wlérick Museum in Mont-de-Marsan in 1977 at the Susse foundry.
