19th century FRENCH school Portrait of the sculptor François Rude (1794-1855) Original terracotta sketch. Bears the inscription Republic... Bears an old label on the underside Mr Rude, famous sculptor who carved the bas-reliefs of the Arc de Triomphe. H. 28, 5 cm RELATED WORKS : - Joseph Tournois (1831-1891), Monument to François Rude, 1886, bronze, Dijon, square Darcy - Louis Schroeder (1828-1898), Modèle au tiers de grandeur du projet de statue à Dijon, 1883, tinted plaster, H. 141 x W. 52 x D. 58 cm, Dijon, Musée des Beaux-Arts, inv. 952. On the occasion of the erection of a monument to François Rude in Dijon, various artists proposed more or less sketched models. Our work is similar to the preparatory sketch made by Louis Schroeder in 1880. The project is finally attributed to Joseph Tournois.
