Influenced by Greek, Roman and Egyptian Antiquity, by the Orient and by contemporary history, Gérôme created skillful sculptures with a taste for detail, materials and colour that make his creations with symbolist or "neo-pompeian" accents a body of work that stands apart in the landscape of late 19th-century French sculpture.
