CUP HOLDER YOROUBA, Nigeria - Lot 436
CUP HOLDER YOROUBA, Nigeria
Medium-hard wood with brown patina, glass beads, accidents.
H. 48,5 cm
PROVENANCE : following the family tradition, acquired from Simone de Monbrison, Paris, in the 1970s
Yoruba cup bearer, in the position of orante, kneeling, holding a deep offering cup. The slender bust is punctuated by high breasts, while the elegant head opens a wide look characteristic of the style.
This classic theme in Yoruba art celebrates the worship of Orisha, one of the deities of the local pantheon.
Beautiful plastic quality of the alternation of the stretched lines (inflection of the legs, bent arms...) and the softness of the curves.
