Jean DESPRÉS (1889-1980) - Lot 379
Jean DESPRÉS (1889-1980) Hammered pewter pitcher, resting on the bottom, the body of piriform form, provided with a handle with rolling up fixed by two points of attachment, the flared spout. Lumps. Signed at the tip on the bottom. H. 19 cm This work of Jean DESPRÉS is known and indexed, it corresponds to the period which starts in the middle of the 1920s and continues until the war. The forms are simple and pure, the hammering process signature of the goldsmith allows to sublimate the proportions. As Jean DESPRÉ expresses it, "Pewter is noble when the shape is beautiful". A jug in the taste of our pitcher dated 1930s is reproduced on page 143, in Mélissa GABARDI's book, Jean DEPRÉS. Bijoutier et orfèvre entre Art déco et modernité, Paris, Les Arts décoratifs / édition Norma, 2009
