Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) BUST OF JEAN-LOUIS BARRAULT (1910-1994), 1940 Foundry plaster Signed and dated (on the pedestal) : Damboise 1940 52,5 x 47 x 30,5 cm (with base) Inv. MD. S-012-00b Jean-Louis Barrault is an actor, director and director of the Odéon Theatre (since 1990 Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe). In 1939-1940, Marcel Damboise and Jean-Louis Barrault were both mobilized, and met in the camouflage section at the Château d'Ermenonville. The sculptor created a portrait of the actor: the actor, then aged 30, joined the Comédie Française. The bust was exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries in 1943. In 1947, the state buys from Marcel Damboise a bronze print of the Bust of Jean-Louis Barrault for the National Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers. Finally, the actor kept a bronze print of his portrait in his dressing room at the Odéon theatre.
