Charles Francis Annesley VOYSEY (1857-1941) - Lot 304
Charles Francis Annesley VOYSEY (1857-1941)
RARE AND BEAUTIFUL CARPET from the Arts & Crafts period, circa 1890, based on a cardboard box by C. F. A. A. Voysey.
Wool velvet on cotton foundations. Good general condition.
Old pink plain field with double lines of symmetrical curves, pale green, inlaid with plants and starry flowers, surrounded by two geometrically arranged pins
stylized: the ornamentation takes into account the structure and seeks its inspiration in the vegetal world, often in spring. The influence of orientalism, inherited from the Second Empire,
and japonism is found in the geometrization of shapes. Fine rows of diamonds and coloured stones form the frame.
Five borders, including the main beige one with water lilies, shells and geometrically stylized jewellery in pastel tones.
480 x 340 cm
