Signed and numbered 445. Dim. 8 x 4.80 x 0.90 cm Gross weight 61.70 g Ten thousand is a particularly recurrent propitiatory figure in Chinese culture. 萬 岁 (萬 歲) wàn suì :''ten thousand years'' is a propitiatory formula for longevity. 万 事 如 意 意 wànshì rúyì :''may the ten thousand wishes come true'' (according to your wishes), is a very common polite formula, still in the current language. The "ten thousand year calendar" is used for astrology or feng shui, the ten thousand year old temple (the temple of Wan Nian) is located in the middle of Mount Emei. The Ten Thousand Buddhas Mwonastery is a Buddhist temple located in Sha Tin in the New Territories of Hong Kong. In philosophy, Lao Tzu wrote about the "ten thousand things" in the Tao Te King. In Zen Buddhism, "10,000 things" is a term meaning the whole phenomenal reality. And we could multiply the examples over and over again.
